Sessai Hattori (1807-?) was a prominent natural history painter and illustrator who was active from the late Edo era to the early Meiji era. Late in his career he worked for the Ministry of Education as an illustrator. His drawing style was influenced by Nagasaki style painters who typically drew their picture subjects in realistic way.
